Woven sides, decorative filigri rim and a metal insert so we believe that this Chinese basket/container would have been used to store tea or rice.
 
Originally there would have been a lid but this is missing.
 
This will make a perfect indoor plant pot or decorative item around the home.
 
Please note the metal insert is fixed half way up the container, so it is not full depth.
